The International Social Science Council, 1952 – 2018

The International Social Science Council (ISSC) has merged with the International Council for Science (ICSU) in July 2018, forming the International Science Council: a single unified body for all the sciences.

At this important moment in the ISSC’s 65-year long history, a new publication has been produced to celebrate the legacy of the ISSC.

Opening with a foreword from ISSC President Alberto Martinelli, the publication highlights some of the key moments from the ISSC’s history, from its creation in 1952 and appointment of Claude Lévi-Strauss as first Secretary-General, to recent activities such as the World Social Science Fellows programme, the World Social Science Report series, and the Transformations to Sustainability programme.
